Have you ever wondered why God sometimes takes years to prepare us for something we don't even understand yet? Just as Israel celebrated festivals for 1,500 years without knowing God's ultimate purpose, God has been working in your life longer than you realize, preparing you for something greater.
God established seven festivals for Israel to celebrate, and they faithfully observed them for fifteen centuries without understanding their true purpose. These celebrations weren't random traditions—they were divine preparations for what God would accomplish through Jesus Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
This same principle applies to your life today. God has been teaching you, guiding you, and preparing you throughout your entire life, whether you recognized His hand or not. Every experience, every challenge, every moment of His presence you've sensed—it's all been part of His preparation for something greater.
In the Old Testament, God's presence literally filled the tabernacle that human hands had built. The Bible tells us that when they dedicated this structure to God, His presence came down in a pillar of fire and filled the space so powerfully that the people were driven out by the glory of His presence.
But God's ultimate plan wasn't to dwell in a building made of gold, silver, and fabric. His desire is to tabernacle—to make His dwelling place—inside of you. This isn't just a metaphor or spiritual concept. God wants to literally live inside you, bringing His light, guidance, joy, peace, mercy, and grace into every aspect of your life.
After Jesus ascended to heaven from the Mount of Olives, 120 believers gathered in an upper room in Jerusalem. These weren't just the twelve apostles—this group included women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers. They came together with one accord in prayer and supplication.
It's significant that while Jesus had appeared to over 500 people after His resurrection, only 120 gathered in that upper room. Where were all the people Jesus had healed? Where was blind Bartimaeus? Where were the ten lepers who had been cleansed? Where was the man with the withered hand?
Many people experienced Jesus' power but weren't willing to commit to the preparation phase. They were content to receive His blessing but not ready to wait for His promise.
"'Draw near to God and He will draw near to you'" - James 4:8 (NKJV). Notice the order here—you must make the first move. God has already been working in your life, knocking on the door of your heart, present in your thoughts and maybe even your prayers. But for a true relationship to develop, you must choose to come to Him.
God won't force Himself into your life. He desires a willing relationship, not a forced one. If you want God to move further in your life than He has before, you must take that step toward Him.
Jesus told His disciples to "'tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high'" - Luke 24:49 (NKJV). This wasn't just about waiting—it was about receiving something that would completely transform their lives and ministry.
When you receive the Holy Spirit, you're not just getting a spiritual experience—you're receiving power. This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, the same power that created the world through spoken words. "'But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me'" - Acts 1:8 (NKJV).
God never saved you to sit on the bench. Salvation isn't just about being thankful for what God has done—it's about being equipped and empowered to serve in His kingdom. You're called to be a witness, to stand up and testify about what God has done in your life.
When you truly experience God's power, you can't help but share it. The early church didn't spread throughout the world because of mental agreement with doctrine—they were transformed by an encounter with the living God that compelled them to share their faith, even unto death.
Your voice matters in the kingdom of God. When you say "Amen" to God's truth, when you testify about His goodness, when you share what He's done in your life, you're not just expressing gratitude—you're providing evidence to others that God is real and active.
People need to hear that God still heals, still delivers, still transforms lives. Your testimony gives others hope that what God did for you, He can do for them too.
"'Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks'" - Matthew 12:34 (NKJV). Your words have creative power because you're made in the image of God, who spoke the world into existence. When you speak fears, doubts, and negative assumptions, you're writing a future of broken relationships and missed opportunities.
But when you choose to speak life, forgiveness, and faith, you create possibilities for lifelong friendships, restored relationships, and kingdom advancement. Your words can either build up or tear down, create unity or division.
For ten days, those 120 believers prayed and waited in the upper room. They weren't ready on day one—it wasn't time yet. But "'when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place'" - Acts 2:1 (NKJV).
Pentecost was a harvest festival that Israel had celebrated for 1,500 years, gathering the first fruits of new growth to offer to the Lord. On this day, God harvested the first fruits of the New Testament church as His Spirit filled those waiting believers.
This week, stop sitting on the bench in your spiritual life. God has been preparing you for something greater than you realize. It's time to move from being a passive recipient of God's blessings to being an active participant in His kingdom.
Take these steps: First, draw near to God through prayer and worship, asking Him to fill you with His Spirit. Second, begin speaking life and faith instead of fear and doubt. Third, share your testimony with someone—tell them what God has done in your life. Fourth, get involved in serving others and advancing God's kingdom.
Ask yourself these questions: Am I content to just receive God's blessings, or am I ready to be empowered for His service? What is God preparing me for that I don't yet understand? How can I use my voice this week to build up rather than tear down? Who needs to hear my testimony about what God has done in my life?
God wants to do exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ask or think. Your brain is not the limit of what God can accomplish in and through your life. The same God who filled that upper room with His presence wants to fill you with His Spirit and use you to reach others. Don't settle for sitting on the sidelines—get in the game and let God work through you.
