When we look at the complexity of our own bodies and minds, we quickly realize how little we truly understand about the world around us. From the intricate muscles in our tongue to the photoreceptors in our eyes, we operate daily with instruments we can't fully comprehend. This reality points to a profound truth: God's ways are far beyond our understanding, yet He calls us to trust Him completely.
Consider the marvel of your own body. You have four muscles in your tongue that work together to help you speak, yet you've never consciously controlled them. Your eyes contain a blind spot where the optic nerve connects to your brain, but your mind automatically fills in the gap so you never notice it. You operate with 35 to 37 trillion cells that all originated from two cells joining together, following a divine blueprint that makes you completely unique.
The truth is, we don't even understand how our own bodies function, yet we use them confidently every day. We trust systems we can't explain and rely on processes we've never studied. This should humble us when we think we need to understand everything God does before we can trust Him.
"'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.'" - Isaiah 55:8-9 (NKJV)
God operates on a completely different level than we do. Just as an artist sees the finished painting while others only see paint being thrown on a canvas, God sees the completed work of your life while you may only see the messy process. The artist knows exactly what they're creating, even when observers can't make sense of the apparent chaos.
Many people limit God because they say, "I don't understand that, so I won't do it." But God specifically tells us His ways are not our ways. You don't have to understand for God to accomplish His purposes through you. You don't have to know what God is doing for Him to do it effectively.
The same God who numbered every hair on your head and designed every cell in your body knows exactly where you are and what you need. He spent intimate time and detail creating who you are. He knows you better than you know yourself, watching you more closely than you can understand.
When the Holy Spirit moves, He accomplishes things through us that our minds can't comprehend. God wants to use His words to accomplish what we can't know or understand. He prays through us, works through us, and moves through us in ways that exceed our spirituality and understanding.
How can mud and spit create sight for the blind? How can speaking to leprosy make it disappear? How can God take the worst time of your life and turn it into the best? We don't need to understand the mechanics of miracles to experience them. We simply need to trust the One who performs them.
You can choose to walk where God wants you to walk or where you want to walk. Walking in God's ways means walking out of your mind, out of your capacity, out of your ability, and into His. When you walk in God, you must walk beyond your own understanding and trust that He wants to accomplish more through you than you could ever achieve alone.
God nudges, pushes, and sometimes shoves us in directions we don't understand. When God asks you to step out, step forward, or reach over, you should obey even when you don't comprehend the purpose. You don't know exactly what God is doing, but He does, and He's the one asking you to act.
God doesn't see just who you are sitting in the pew right now. He sees a yielded heart and a yielded life empowered by His Spirit. He sees someone through whom rivers of living water can flow. He sees an anointed person, a gifted person, someone walking in the Spirit - even if you've never seen that person when you look in the mirror.
God sees a prayer warrior, someone who will love children, a great ministry leader, a powerful witness. He sees beyond your current limitations to your future potential. Just as an artist envisions the masterpiece before the first brushstroke, God sees who you can become through His transforming power.
This week, challenge yourself to trust God in an area where you don't have all the answers. Stop limiting God because you can't understand His methods or timing. Instead of saying "I don't understand, so I won't do it," start saying "I don't understand, but I trust You, God."
Ask yourself these questions:
Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made by a God who knows every detail of your life. He created your eyes, your heart, your mind - every part of you. The same God who designed the intricate systems of your body that work without your understanding can certainly handle the details of your life that you can't comprehend. Trust Him to paint the masterpiece of your life, even when you can't see what He's creating.
